PVP vs. RPG
I joined GuildWars on sat, came straight from World of Warcraft. I left WoW becaue one of their latest patches turned the game into a freaking PVP kill quest for anyone over level 50.
My question is this, I selected the RPG mode, how different is this from the PVP mode and will I be able to partake in the mass PVP destruction still? |

Yeah, common confusion.
PvP characters start at level 20, with a full set of top-notch armor. A character made this way cannot go to any towns, or mission, or explorable areas. You are only able to participate in PvP combat. An RP character starts at level 1 with jack taco. You build your character up, quest to get skills and experience, and go through a storyline. An RP character, once built up over the game, will be able to do anything a PvP character can do, plus still go back and do quests/explore/etc. The important thing is that any skill, item enhancement, or armor rune you find in RP will 'unlock' it for PvP characters. So eventually you will be able to make better PvP characters through the things you've unlocked in RP mode. |

So at what point will we be able to take a RPG character into the PVP world? When they hit level 20?

there are no 1v1 duels either all pvp is limited to pvp areas only this prevents ganking pkers loot stealing lines for quests campers i love it no spending 500 hours crafting your armor , just bring the raw materials from drops to a crafter and poof you have your level xxx armor |

There are select, controlled zones that you can engage in PvP in from level 3 to level 20. In post-searing Ascalon, there is an "Arena", where you are randomly assigned in a group of 4 players to fight against 4 other randomly assigned players. There are other types of PvP as well, but there is no PvP in explorable PvE zones, so you will never get ganked.

PvP characters are automatically able to go to the top-level PvP areas. An RP character would first have to play all the way through to those areas, but would still have full access to them all. There are also smaller arena's a different type across the world that you will discover as you go one, but the best is always saved for last naturally. |

Technically speaking, the two types of characters are "RP" and "PvP-only".
A "PvP char" could be either, since RP characters are perfectly viable as PvP chars, indeed some would say they're the best kind of PvP chars. RP chars can do anything. PvP-only chars are, as the name implies, limited to PvP. Last edited by Dreamsmith; May 09, 2005 at 06:52 PM // 18:52.. |
